Effective dehydration prior to charging a system with refrigerant takes valuable time and time is money. As a manufacture of high vacuum pumps for over 40 years we find many problems experienced in the field are due to misunderstanding of vacuum principles. We are often asked to supply a big vacuum pump because the job is big. There are three considerations which will determine whether a vacuum pump is suitable for the application.
How to Vacuum and Charge an Air Conditioner in Under 45 Minutes
We are a team of ASE certified mechanics that have created this guide so you can save money and do the job right. Let's jump right in! Learn more: How an air conditioner works. The following process removes damage causing moisture once the system has been opened up to be inspected or after a repair as been performed.
How to Vacuum Down and Recharge an Air Conditioner
Moisture inside refrigerant lines can contaminate the lines, causing your air conditioning unit to become sluggish. Refrigerant already in the lines combines with the moisture that enters the lines. Remove the service valve caps, using a wrench.
System evacuation is just good service common sense. You need to remove any water vapor, nitrogen, and oxygen contained in the air before you can add refrigerant. If you leave air in the system, it will collect in the condenser, taking up space and causing the high-side pressure to be higher than normal. Any water vapor contained in the air may freeze and cause a restriction, normally at the outlet of the metering device.
